Holcim has improved significantly during the first three quarters of revenue and profit
The cement group Holcim increased its profit in the first nine months rose by over 70 percent. For the year, the Group is confident and is a good prospect of fiscal 2005. They benefit from good economic conditions in key growth markets, said the world's second largest cement company.
(Ap) The consolidated profit of Holcim increased in the first nine months of 2005 rose by 70.5% compared to 1.175 billion francs. The cement so that the company has exceeded analysts' expectations and made more profit after three quarters, as for the whole of last year.
Revenues grew by 34.0% in local currencies and by 35.3% to 13.425 billion francs. Operating EBITDA increased by 25.4% to 3.501 billion francs. Have contributed to this substantial increase despite higher energy and transportation costs and tougher price pressure, four out of five Group regions, it is said in the statement of Holcim.
High growth rate in North America
These include the Group regions North America (62.4%), Africa, Middle East (up 34.3%), Europe (up 28.1%) and Asia Pacific (+12.9%), while Ebitda in the company Latin America remained stable.
Excluding the newly consolidated this year, Aggregate Industries and Ambuja Cement Eastern and Cemento de El Salvador, an internal Ebitda growth amounts to 9.7 percent.
Consolidated operating profit rose 44.2% to 2.576 billion francs. The workforce increased by 31.2% to 61'541 employees. Cement sales rose in the first nine months rose 7.4% to 83 million tons. The aggregates were up by 55.8% to 122.3 million tonnes. Ready-mix concrete, the Group achieved an increase of 28.3% to 28.1 million cubic meters.
A healthy mix
To the very good financial results for the first nine months, according to Holcim the world's construction intact, global presence and the right mix of production sites in mature and emerging markets have contributed. Sales increases and cost savings, such as through the increased use of fossil fuels, would have supported the strong internal growth.
Holcim continues to benefit their own data on average from the good economic situation in key growth markets and expects to continue its positive development in the coming months. The Group reaffirmed that the long-standing internal operating profit growth is expected to be significantly exceeded by five percent.
Best starting conditions for 2006
For the full year 2005 is likely, internal operating EBITDA growth in the long term average of 5% rate of return. This is an excellent starting position for the fiscal year 2006, Holcim continues to write.
Analysts had predicted for the first nine months of average sales of 13'065 million francs, an operating profit of 2461 million francs and a profit of 1,159 million francs.

(Rw) - The Luxembourg steel company ArcelorMittal Rodange & Schifflange (AMRS) writes in the first half of the year the red, but the turnover is rising sharply.
In the first six months drove the company a loss of 15.3 million euros, 27 percent more than the previous year (twelve million €). 2010, the Group reported an overall loss of 37.5 million €.
Sales in the first six months but strong again. End of June the company took a € 247.5 million in the first half of 2010, there were only 190.5 million. This represents an increase of 30 percent. The steel exports also increased from 407 300 tonnes to 426 400 tons. But also the raw materials became more expensive.
Demand for construction steel has fallen
The loss before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) is in the second half of a total of 5.3 million euros, 86 percent more than last year, when it amounted to € 2.8 million. The company sees but already the first positive results of the strategic plan, adopted in the first quarter.
This allowed the Ebitda of nearly - 5 million (1st Q) - 0.3 million euros (2nd Q) are reduced. In the works Rodange and Schifflingen structural steel and wire is made, the deposit can be due to poor construction only with difficulty.
In the second quarter was the demand for construction steel has fallen again, so in AMRS their release. The demand for the metal-mechanical production for thought, however, rose again.
Reduction of work places
The company is located in a restructuring phase. The two loss-making plants back on profit rate in June, the loss of around 250 of the approximately 800 jobs, it was decided. The job cuts without layoffs but go across the stage.
Personnel costs fell by € 12.3 million in the first trimester to 11.7 million euros in the second. About half of the employees affected by the mining plans in the works will be shifted Differdange and Esch-Belval, whereas the other half in a "cellule de reclassement" comes from.
The company's stock was at 31 October by the Luxembourg Stock Exchange taken. Its venture shares were illiquid, and the effort was not worth more, the company said in its messages,.

George Mueller next to the pile, composed of quartz. The raw material must be initiated from the host rock.
There had been fierce resistance in the community Tiefenbach, when it became known that the Passau reduce transport and dredging companies in Ritzing miller quartz want. The mining authorities southern Bavaria, the ultimate authority, approved the venture yet. His argument: The extraction of the mineral resources is in the public interest. Meanwhile, the reduction has been running for over a year - and the emotions seem to have subsided.
"It is understandable that people have been afraid," said George Mueller and his wife Heidi. The two are facing the hall next to the plant entrance and look up at a stately mound. The Millers have the mountain "artificially" built up. "For noise abatement reasons," she said, "we would not have to, but we want the residents are happy."
The wall shields the lean mining area before the other settlement from Ritzing. Only the steep driveway is visible from the street and the houses. It makes a curve and disappears behind the wall. In this way, hidden from view, where the rock is mined and shipped.

Celitement receives material efficiency prize of the BMWi
The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), with its environmentally friendly and energy-saving cement Celitement one of the winners of the German Materials Efficiency Prize of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi). Compared with conventional methods for cement production promises to be this huge energy savings kit development and a much more favorable energy balance. With the price recorded at the State Secretary Jochen Homann 17.11. four medium-sized companies and a research facility for their innovative ideas and processes from. The KIT was awarded for his applied research to improve material efficiency.

State Secretary Jochen Homann gave the award at the conference "with resource efficiency on the road to victory - Practice and research show the way". On the part of KIT were contrary to the Vice President for Research and Innovation, Dr. Peter Fritz, and Dr. Peter Stemmermann from the four-member team of inventors Celitement the 10,000 Euro award. "The Material Efficiency Award shows us that we are in the development of Celitement on the right track and how pioneering this innovation is now energy-intensive process in cement production," said Dr. Peter Fritz.
The previously used portland cement is the world's largest amount used in industrial product and consumed in the production and processing also huge resources of limestone and gypsum. "In the production of Celitement we need only about a third of the amount of lime and we can dispense entirely on interground plaster", scholars Dr. Peter Stemmermann one of the advantages of the resource-saving cement.
Celitement also requires from today's perspective, only half as much energy in production and are in production compared to previous methods, probably only half as much carbon dioxide into the environment. Celitement is now being further developed by the Celitement GmbH, a spin of the four inventors of the industrial partner of KIT and Schwenk Zement KG.
"Green" Cement Celitement wants smaller "ecological footprints" left
"Celitement has the potential to replace the long term in large areas of the conventional cement," Dr. Hanns-Günther Mayer, a managing director of Celitement GmbH is convinced. So far, the KIT-Scientists have Celitement produced at laboratory scale. After more than a year of intensive and successful testing establishes the Celitement GmbH currently on the North Campus of KIT, a pilot plant with an investment of five million euros. As of spring 2011, the pilot plant daily 100 kilograms "Celitement" will match. "This is the next step on the way to market the eco-friendly cement," says Mayer - see also the article "climate-friendly cement Celitement gets pilot plant" of 08/24/2010.
The annual award of the German Materials Efficiency Prize promotes the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology for the economically and environmentally beneficial effects of material efficiency. Five technically advanced products, processes or services will be awarded € 10,000 each.

Heidelberger Cement Buy
The stock analysts at SGZ-Bank recommend this week that the share of the building material supplier Heidelberg Cement (WKN 604 700) for sale. Despite a still poor German construction industry - is the domestic sales increased only slightly accordingly - that society can increase its sales in the first half by 10% to 3.64 billion marks for the full year and expect growth of about 6 %.
Thus, I continue the trend of recent years had made in which Heidelberg Cement, despite unfavorable conditions a steady revenue and earnings growth. These relatively positive development was due primarily to the strong regional diversification of the business. While were built because of the critical situation in East Germany, especially in the building materials sector like cement, where significant over-capacity site consolidations and restructuring of the sales were necessary to the business in Western Europe and North America was a very good year. Accordingly, the management put on a further expansion in promising markets.
In addition to building a new plant in the U.S., which would cost as now the biggest single investment about 250 million dollars, would complement involvement in future growth markets of Southeast Asia as well as Romania and Poland's business portfolio. As part of the general market recovery, have the shares of Heidelberger cement AG removed from their annual lows and back to a level above the rates of the year. The support zone formed during the downturn by 140 DM is now a resistance that must first be overcome. The stock specialists SGZ-Bank indicate that the share ownership with a P / E of 13.5 based on the earnings estimates for 1999, a moderate rating, which make them interesting as a long-term investment. In addition, it was likely that the construction sector to recover in the medium term and also contribute to the positive momentum will change in government.

Report of 5 Holcim Concrete Forum on concrete innovations
"
(11/28/2010) For the 5th Holcim Germany once invited to a concrete forum that was hosted this time in Hamburg Curio-Haus. The invitation under the motto "concrete innovations" were more than 280 professionals from the construction industry followed. As a leading presenter, as in former years, the journalist Peter von Sassen from the NDR with the event. In his opening remarks, Leo Mittelholzer, CEO of Holcim (Germany) AG, concrete that had not yet reached its potential and innovation are of great importance to the long term in the market.
With Prof. Dr.-Ing. Harald Budelmann from the Technical University of Braunschweig, the first officer went to the "concrete technology innovation potential for building" one. The most important advances were achieved in the development and improvement of concrete raw materials and the manufacture and finishing of concrete. The "concrete modular" he demonstrated the innovative strength of concrete at various examples from practice.
Then presented Dipl.-Ing. Hans Joachim Christian, Dipl.-Ing. Lindemar Hänisch of the DESY Hamburg "Outstanding Concrete Structures for research in the DESY" before. Were brought closer to the audience the two projects PETRA III and the European project to build the X-ray laser XFEL, which allows molecular and atomic processes, as it filmed and snapshots of the atomic details can be manufactured in materials.
A fascinating insight into the topic "Nanotechnologically optimized ultra-high performance concrete with multiple characteristics" was the event participants, Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Michael Schmidt of the University of Kassel. "We are in the century of high-performance concrete," said Schmidt, and made the differences of building materials with their individual structures significantly. Thanks to the insights gained from the nanotechnology could significantly improve ordinary portland cement and concrete.
In the subsequent presentation, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ludger Lohaus from the Leibniz University Hannover, concrete technical approaches and development strategies for robust concretes before. An optimal use of water ", where each drop of water which is supplied to the concrete is also used, is it the key to a high robustness and the avoidance of defects in the concrete.
About the Innovation Award Ceremony "energy storage concrete" informed Dr. Frank Huber of the cement + concrete trade and promotional gifts. m.b.H from Austria. The focus of the award-winning construction projects was on the reduction of energy consumption for air conditioning of buildings by the thermal activation. After his presentation of the four winners of the Auditorium, he invited her to visit the places to visit.
The event was rounded off with the post by Roland Bos (advertising agency Scholz & Friends) on sustainable ideas for the future. The advertising man looked at the concrete building material from the perspective of marketing and illustrated with several examples of how products can be targeted by advertising communication successfully set the scene. Building with concrete is innovative, communicating with concrete stand still in its infancy.
In a final plenary discussion, the participants exchanged especially over the image of concrete. The framework of the 5th Holcim Concrete Forum took Dr. Mathias Hoeppner, director of Technical Marketing, to present together with his team, the interested participants with the pre-cast cement Holcim Pur 5 premium and the related brochure, the latest product development from Holcim (Germany) AG.

Artfully: Designing with colored concrete
The color concrete by pigments is not a new procedure. But thanks to technological progress, concrete color concrete delight of architects, planners and builders today particularly popular. With colored concrete made it a far more lasting color results than with a subsequent painting and much more intense colors than by colored aggregates alone. This corresponds to the color of concrete ideas, but experience and know-how are essential in the production of concrete, because it applies different factors to control properly.

Cement and color pigment choice
Even if the concrete is colored with pigments, the brightness of the cement used plays a large role because it determines the basic color of the concrete. With bright cements, as a rule with portland cement or blast furnace, so CEM II and CEM III, there are, in principle, be made deeper, purer colors. These cements are mainly in bright colors such as pastels and of course recommended for very white. Dark red, ocher, brown and black on the other hand can also be set well with darker cements. are pigments for coloring concrete is targeted in various forms such as powders, granules, beads or liquid paint. Each has its advantages in certain applications. The mostly inorganic pigments are added to the formulation of concrete production and color the cement paste which surrounds the mineral aggregates and connects.

With iron oxide pigments, for example, concrete can be colored red, yellow, black and brown.
With the mineral pigment ultramarine and cobalt blue are achieved various degrees of blue.
Chromium oxide and chromium hydroxide green result.
Titanium oxide pigment colors the white concrete.
Even with relatively low pigment added a great color effect is achieved. Depending on the nature of the pigment and the desired color result dose the employees of the concrete manufacturer is usually between 2 and 6% of the share of cement color pigments into the concrete. The color intensity initially increases linearly with the amount of pigment, stagnating at a certain percentage, the color saturation level - the addition of other pigments will show hardly any effect. Since the pigments represent a not underestimate the cost, knowledge about the optimal dosage avoids unnecessary expenditure. be expected, however, must be below the saturation level more with fluctuations in the shade. The timing of the addition of the pigment has to be right:
Powder and granules are about before,
Liquid color by the addition of water in the mixer.
Manufacture and installation
For colored concrete is the same as for any concrete vision: the establishment of a stable, well-processed formulation is an important basis for making desired end result. But it is not enough. At each step, from planning to installation and after-treatment should the project partners to vote in detail in a concrete team.
The "data sheet for Concrete" is a valuable basis for agreements. Prior to the execution of the production of plots is strongly recommended. Only this test under harsh conditions provides information on the project-specific best combination of concrete, plywood and release agents. The customer can select one of the plots, which is regarded as reference surface. The tolerance limits for color variations should necessarily be discussed in advance. Many parameters in the production, installation and surface treatment affects the color results. Variability from batch to batch can be largely avoided if you have a ...
